What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SL6150-6 is a 1-pole SENTRON miniature circuit breaker (MCB) with a B tripping characteristic, rated 50 A at 230/400 V AC. It interrupts fault currents up to 6 kA, certified to both EN 60898 and IEC 60947-2 — so it covers residential and light commercial panelboards as well as industrial control circuits where the SCCR requirement sits at that level.
What the ratings mean for fit
The B-curve (3–5× In magnetic trip) is the standard choice for resistive and general-purpose loads where inrush is low — lighting circuits, small heaters, control transformers. At 50 A it handles a 11.5 kW resistive load on a 230 V single-phase circuit. The 6 kA breaking capacity matches the typical prospective fault level at the service entrance of most residential and light commercial installations; if your panel's upstream transformer can deliver more fault current, you need a higher-rated MCB or a current-limiting upstream device. Single-pole (1P) construction means it switches only the line conductor — used in single-phase branch circuits or as a pole of a multi-pole assembly. The 18 mm width (1 modular unit) fits standard DIN-rail enclosures; at 76 mm depth it leaves clearance for wiring and busbar connections in most distribution boards. IP20 with connected conductors means it is protected against finger contact but not against moisture — install inside a panel or enclosure rated for the environment. The -40 °C to 75 °C operating range covers unheated utility rooms and outdoor enclosures in most climates.
Panel integration notes
Snap-on mounting to 35 mm DIN rail, any orientation. The 18 mm width (1 MW) means it occupies one slot — plan busbar and neutral bar fill accordingly. Sealable terminals (lead-sealable) support anti-tamper requirements for metering or landlord sub-panels. Supplementary devices (auxiliary switches, shunt trips, alarm contacts) can be installed on the right side without increasing the pole width. Power dissipation is 4 W per pole at rated current in hot operating state — account for this in enclosed panel thermal calculations, especially when multiple MCBs are ganged. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction matters for installations with sensitive contacts or where off-gassing during a fault must be minimized.
