What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SL6163-6RC is a SENTRON 5SL6 miniature circuit breaker (MCB) — one pole, rated 63 A at 230/400 V AC, with a B tripping characteristic and a 7.5 kA breaking capacity per EN 60898. The B curve means it trips between 3 and 5 times rated current, which is the standard choice for resistive and general-purpose loads in residential and light commercial distribution boards — lighting circuits, socket outlets, small appliances. The 7.5 kA rating tells you it can safely interrupt a fault current up to that level at the rated voltage, which covers most domestic and small commercial service entrances in Europe.
Dimensions and panel fit
At 18 mm wide (one width unit), 90 mm tall, and 76 mm deep, this MCB snaps onto a standard DIN rail and occupies a single module position in a consumer unit or distribution board. The 70 mm installation depth leaves clearance behind the busbar and wiring troughs. Mounting position is unrestricted — any orientation is permitted per the datasheet.
Environmental and compliance
Rated for ambient temperatures from -40 °C to +75 °C, which covers outdoor enclosures and unheated plant rooms. Degree of pollution 2 and overvoltage category III are standard for fixed-installation MCBs. IP20 with connected conductors means it is touch-safe when wired but not sealed against moisture — keep it inside a panel or enclosure. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction matters for installations where outgassing during a fire must be minimized (e.g., public buildings, transit).
