What this MCB does and where it fits
The Siemens 5SL6232-6 is a 2-pole SENTRON miniature circuit breaker rated 32 A at 400 V AC with a B tripping characteristic and 6 kA breaking capacity per EN 60898 and IEC 60947-2. The B curve means it trips between 3 and 5 times rated current — standard for resistive and general-purpose loads in residential and infrastructure panels. At 40 °C ambient the continuous rating derates to 30.06 A; at 55 °C it drops to 26.89 A, so a warm enclosure eats into headroom. The 2-module-wide (36 mm) body snaps onto DIN rail in any orientation and accepts sealable covers for metering applications.
Physical fit and panel integration
The 5SL6232-6 occupies 2 modular width units (36 mm) on a DIN rail. Depth is 76 mm, installation depth 70 mm — standard for the SENTRON 5SL family. Height is 90 mm. Mounting position is unrestricted. IP20 with connected conductors means it belongs inside a closed panel, not in a washdown zone. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction suits clean environments and low-smoke installations.
Selectivity and coordination notes
Energy limitation class 3 and overvoltage category III — this breaker limits let-through energy well enough to coordinate with downstream 6 kA-rated loads in a typical sub-distribution board. The B curve provides faster trip than C or D on moderate overloads, which helps arc-fault containment but may reduce selectivity with upstream C-curve MCBs unless the ratio is at least 2.5:1. No neutral pole switching (2-pole only on the phase side).
