What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SL6416-7 is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker — a 4-pole, C-curve, 16 A device rated for 400 V AC with a 6 kA breaking capacity under both EN 60898 and IEC 60947-2. That 6 kA figure is the fault current it can safely interrupt at the panelboard; for residential and light commercial infrastructure panels, it covers the typical available fault current at the service entrance. The C-curve means it trips between 5 and 10 times rated current — standard for general-purpose branch circuits feeding lighting, receptacles, and small motor loads where inrush isn't extreme.
Panel fit and environment
Occupies 4 modular width units (72 mm wide) on a DIN rail, with a 76 mm depth and 70 mm installation depth. Mounting position is any — no derating needed for horizontal or inverted orientation. Rated IP20 with connected conductors, so it's intended for enclosed panel use, not washdown or outdoor exposure. Pollution degree 2 and overvoltage category III cover fixed-installation environments like distribution boards in dry buildings.
