D-curve 4 A MCB for industrial branch circuits
IP20 with connected conductors — touch-safe when wired, but not for wet or washdown zones. Sealable, halogen-free, silicon-free construction suits controlled-atmosphere or clean-room adjacent panels where outgassing matters.
Snap-on DIN rail mount, 2 MW wide. Vibration resistant per IEC 60068-2-6 — holds calibration on machine-mounted subpanels. Mechanical service life 10,000 operating cycles typical. Rated for 50/60 Hz supply.
How the 5SL7204-8RC differs from a standard C-curve 2-pole
The 5SL7204-8RC uses a D tripping characteristic (10-20× In magnetic trip), while the common 2-pole SENTRON sibling 5SY7206-7CC uses a C curve (5-10× In). For a 4 A circuit, the D-curve holds through the inrush of a small contactor coil or a 0.75 kW motor start that would trip a C-curve. The trade-off: reduced protection for low-level faults — D-curve is not for general-purpose socket outlets or lighting. The 5SL7204-8RC also carries a higher breaking capacity (15/20 kA vs 30 kA per IEC 60947-2 on the 5SY7206-7CC), so it's suited for lower-SCCR distribution boards rather than high-fault industrial mains.
