What it is and what the ratings mean
The Siemens 5SL7340-3RC is a 3-pole miniature circuit breaker (MCB) rated 40 A with a K characteristic and a 15 kA breaking capacity. The K characteristic means the magnetic trip threshold is 8 to 12 times the rated current — designed for motor and transformer branch circuits where the inrush current is higher than a resistive load but lower than a pure motor-start curve (which would take a D curve). The 15 kA breaking capacity at 400 V tells you this MCB can safely interrupt a fault current up to that level without welding the contacts or cascading the arc upstream — a key spec for coordination studies on a panel fed by a transformer of that fault capability.
Where it fits
Snaps onto standard DIN rail in a distribution board or sub-panel. The 3-pole format handles three-phase circuits (L1, L2, L3) in a single module width per pole. For a panel-builder, the K curve means you can feed a group of small motors or a control transformer without nuisance tripping on inrush, while still providing short-circuit protection downstream.
