FI Protector Type A for Personnel and Fire Protection
The Siemens 5SM1311-6BA is a Type A residual current protective device (FI protector) rated 16A, 2-pole, with a rated residual current IΔn of 30mA at 230V. The Type A designation means it detects sinusoidal AC residual currents and pulsating DC residual currents up to 6 mA of smooth DC — the standard for general socket-outlet circuits and equipment with rectifiers or switching power supplies.
Panel Integration Note
At 2TE (36mm) width and 55mm depth, the 5SM1311-6BA fits standard DIN-rail enclosures. The Type A characteristic covers most mixed-load final circuits with electronic loads (PCs, LED drivers, appliances with half-wave rectification). For circuits with frequency converters or EV chargers, a Type F or Type B RCD would be required — this Type A is not rated for those higher DC components.
