The 5SM1314-6: The 30 mA sensitivity (type A) detects pulsating DC fault currents plus smooth AC — the standard for circuits with single-phase rectifiers, switched-mode power supplies, or variable-speed drives that can generate pulsed DC leakage. The 40 A rating is the continuous load current at 40 °C ambient; above that, the thermal derating curve applies (38.4 A at 50 °C, 36.8 A at 55 °C, stepping down to 32 A at 70 °C). The instantaneous design (no intentional delay) trips within milliseconds on a ground fault — no coordination with short-time-delay RCCBs downstream.
The IP20 rating applies once the distribution board is installed with conductors connected; the front is finger- and back-of-hand safe per the protection class. Spring-cage terminals accept 0.2–2.5 mm² solid or ferruled stranded; strip length 8 mm.
