The Siemens 5SM1317-6 is a 2-pole SENTRON residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) rated 80 A at 40 °C with a 30 mA Type A trip characteristic and a 10 kA short-circuit current rating at 230 V AC. The Type A designation means it detects sinusoidal AC fault currents plus pulsating DC fault currents — the standard for modern electronic loads like VFDs, switched-mode power supplies, and LED drivers that generate half-wave rectified leakage. The 30 mA trip level provides personal protection against direct contact (the 30 mA threshold is the IEC 60364 limit for shock protection in final circuits).
The 80 A rating holds at ambient temperatures up to 45 °C. Above that, the continuous current must be derated: 76.8 A at 50 °C, 73.6 A at 55 °C, 70.4 A at 60 °C, 67.2 A at 65 °C, and 64 A at 70 °C. If this RCCB lives in a crowded enclosure where internal ambient routinely hits 50 °C or higher, the actual load current must stay below the derated figure — otherwise nuisance tripping from thermal overload (not earth leakage) becomes a real risk.
The screw terminals accept solid or stranded conductors from 1.5 to 25 mm², with a tightening torque of 2.5 to 3 N·m. Installation depth is 55 mm.
