The 5SM3317-6 is a 2-pole residual-current circuit breaker (RCCB) from the Siemens SENTRON 5SM3 series, rated 80 A at 230 V AC with a 30 mA Type A tripping characteristic. The instantaneous design (no short-time delay) means it trips within the normal RCCB response window; use it where selectivity against a downstream delayed RCD is not required. Mounts on DIN rail (REG profile) in any orientation — top or bottom feed. At 36 mm wide (2.5 modular width units), it occupies two adjacent slots in a standard distribution board. IP20 only when the enclosure is closed and conductors are connected; not rated for wet or dusty environments without a higher-rated outer enclosure. Temperature derating is published from 40 °C to 70 °C in 5 °C steps: 80 A continuous up to 45 °C, then linearly down to 64 A at 70 °C.
Integration and compliance notes
Finger and back-of-hand safe per the protection-against-electrical-shock rating. Overvoltage category III — suitable for fixed-installation downstream of the service entrance. Silicon-free construction, which matters for applications where silicone outgassing can contaminate contacts or optics (e.g., adjacent to sensitive electronics in a sealed panel). Function letter F per DIN EN 61346-2 and DIN EN 81346-2 — protective-equipment function in the plant-modelling standard. The I²t value is 70 000 A²s; surge-current withstand is 1 kA. Test circuit minimum voltage is 100 V AC.
