The Siemens 5SM3417-0 is a SENTRON residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) rated 80 A at 40 °C, 100 mA trip sensitivity, 2-pole, 230 V AC, instantaneous type (no short-time delay). The 10 kA short-circuit current rating means it safely clears faults up to that level without upstream damage in the panel. The 100 mA trip is sized for equipment protection or circuits where a higher leakage threshold is acceptable — not the 30 mA required for personal shock protection in standard socket-outlet circuits. Mounts on DIN rail (2.5 width units, 36 mm wide, 70 mm deep), IP20 with conductors connected.
Mounting & integration
Snaps onto DIN rail (REG). Any mounting position works, but the IP20 rating assumes the distribution board is installed with conductors connected. Terminal accepts solid or stranded from 1.5 to 25 mm². Supply can enter from top or bottom. The 70 mm depth fits standard shallow enclosures — check gland plate clearance if back-panel depth is tight.
Thermal derating
Full 80 A rating holds at 40 °C and 45 °C. Above that, derate linearly: 75.2 A at 50 °C, 70.4 A at 55 °C, 65.6 A at 60 °C, 60.8 A at 65 °C, 56 A at 70 °C. Ambient range is -40 to +75 °C, but the derating curve governs continuous load above 45 °C.
Compliance & approvals
Overvoltage category III. Finger- and back-of-hand safe per protection against electrical shock. Silicon-free construction. I²t value 70 000 A²·s. Designed per DIN EN 61346-2 and DIN EN 81346-2 (function letter F). Operates at 50 Hz only.
