What it is and what the ratings mean
The Siemens SENTRON 5SM3612-6BA is a 2-pole RCCB from the 5SM3 design series, rated 25 A at 230 V AC with a 300 mA tripping residual current. Type A detects pulsating DC fault currents in addition to sinusoidal AC. The 10 kA short-circuit current rating (SCCR) at 230 V AC means the device can safely interrupt a fault current up to that level without welding contacts or rupturing the enclosure — a standard requirement for distribution boards fed from a transformer of typical impedance. Overvoltage category III confirms it is rated for fixed installation downstream of the main distribution board, not for outlet or appliance-level use.
Panel integration and wiring
Snaps onto DIN rail (REG profile) and occupies 2 width units. Installation depth is 70 mm. Screw terminals accept solid or stranded conductors from 1 to 16 mm². Tightening torque is 2.5 to 3 N·m. Supply can enter from top or bottom. Mounting position is any, and the housing is finger and back-of-hand safe (IP20 with conductors connected) — standard for enclosed distribution boards. The silicon-free construction matters if the panel is in a painting or coating environment where silicone outgassing can cause adhesion failures.
