The Siemens 5SM3617-0 is a SENTRON residual current circuit breaker (RCCB), 2-pole, AC type, rated 80 A at 40 °C and 230 V supply. Instantaneous tripping, no short-time delay. Mounts on DIN rail (REG), occupies 2.5 width units (36 mm). IP20 with distribution board installed and conductors connected.
Ratings and what they mean for fit
80 A at 40 °C is the headline rating — derate linearly above that: 76.8 A at 50 °C, 73.6 A at 55 °C, 70.4 A at 60 °C, 67.2 A at 65 °C, 64 A at 70 °C. If your panel ambient runs hot, the 80 A nameplate doesn't hold; size up or confirm the thermal profile. Short-circuit current rating (SCCR) is 10 kA per IEC 61008-1. That's the maximum fault current this RCCB can safely interrupt without welding or exploding — adequate for most commercial and light industrial distribution boards. The EN 60898 rating is lower at 0.8 kA, which governs the conditional rating for back-up fuse coordination. AC-type fault detection means it responds to sinusoidal AC residual currents only. Not suitable for pulsating DC or smooth DC faults (those need A or B type). Finger and back-of-hand safe per the protection-against-shock feature — that's a panel-builder consideration for live-bus exposure.
Deployment context
DIN-rail snap-on, any mounting position. Supply cord can land top or bottom — no orientation restriction. 70 mm installation depth fits standard 70 mm deep enclosures. Silicon-free construction matters for coating/adhesion-sensitive environments (conformal coating lines, potting).
