Arc-fault detection unit with integrated RCBO — 16 A, 30 mA, Type F
The Siemens 5SM6021-1XX03 is a SENTRON arc-fault detection unit (AFDD) pre-assembled with a 1+N RCBO rated B16, 30 mA, Type F. The unit detects both series arcs (2 A to 16 A) and parallel arcs (50 A to 500 A) — meaning it catches the full range of dangerous arc faults from a loose terminal to a carbonized path across the line and neutral.
The 16 A rated operational current at 230 V AC sets the maximum continuous load — size the downstream branch circuit for this, not higher. The 30 mA rated residual current with Type F characteristic handles AC, pulsating DC, and mixed-frequency fault currents from variable-speed drives or LED drivers, which standard Type A cannot. The short-term delayed switching function prevents nuisance tripping from inrush or transient arcs that self-extinguish.
DIN-rail footprint and environmental fit
Depth is 68.5 mm, width 54 mm, height 95 mm — 3 MW so it needs three 18 mm slots in the distribution board. Installation depth is 70 mm. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction means no corrosive or conductive off-gassing in a fire, critical for cleanroom or high-reliability environments where a fault must not contaminate the surroundings.
