What this MCB is and where it lands
The SENTRON 5SP4492-7 is a 4-pole miniature circuit breaker with a C tripping curve, rated 125 A at 400 V AC and a 10 kA breaking capacity per EN 60898. It sits in the 5SP family — a DIN-rail-mount, 6-module-width design with tunnel terminals top and bottom, and it accepts supplementary devices for downstream signaling or remote tripping. The 70 mm installation depth and 76 mm body depth fit standard distribution boards; the unit is sealable and halogen- and silicon-free, which simplifies disposal and compliance paperwork.
The C-curve and the 10 kA — what they mean on a real line
The C characteristic (magnetic trip at 5–10× In) is the go-to for general-purpose loads — motor starters, contactor coils, small transformers, lighting banks where inrush isn't brutal but still needs a little headroom. The 10 kA breaking capacity at 400 V AC per EN 60898 means this breaker can safely interrupt a fault current up to 10 kA without welding contacts or venting arc gas into the panel. That's enough for most sub-distribution boards fed from a 630 kVA transformer; if your available fault current is higher, you'll need an upstream current-limiting device or a higher-rated MCB.
Mounting and environment — no special treatment needed
Fastens via DIN rail or screw fixing, and the mounting position is any — vertical, horizontal, upside-down in a tight gland plate — the breaker doesn't care. Pollution degree 3 (conductive or dry non-conductive pollution that becomes conductive due to condensation) and overvoltage category III cover industrial control panels and fixed installations. The IP rating is IP20 with connected conductors, IP40 in the handle area with a distribution cover — fine for enclosed panels, not for open washdown zones. Temperature range -40 to 75 °C, so it'll live in an unheated warehouse or a hot roof-top enclosure without derating drama.
How it compares to the 5SP4292-7
The 5SP4292-7 is the same 4-pole C-curve 10 kA platform but rated 100 A instead of 125 A. Both share the 6 MW footprint, tunnel terminals, and the same 70 mm installation depth. If your panel was specified around the 100 A version and the load grew, the 5SP4492-7 drops into the same DIN-rail slot and same wiring scheme — no rewiring, no adapter plate. The only change is the higher continuous rating.
