What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 5SU1324-6KX13 is a 2-pole RCBO (residual current circuit breaker with overcurrent protection) combining a Type A residual current device and a B-curve miniature circuit breaker in a single 3-module-width unit. It is rated 13 A at 30 °C and carries a 10 kA breaking capacity per EN 60898 and 20 kA per IEC 60947-2, meaning it can safely interrupt fault currents up to those levels without upstream cascading. The Type A residual current detection covers sinusoidal AC and pulsating DC fault currents — the standard for most commercial and light industrial circuits with electronic loads like switched-mode power supplies or variable-speed drives.
Temperature derating — the real-world current rating
The 13 A rating holds at 30 °C ambient. At 40 °C it derates to 12.48 A, at 50 °C to 11.96 A, and at 70 °C to 10.01 A. If this RCBO sits in a crowded enclosure with other heat sources, the continuous load must be sized to the derated value at the actual internal temperature — the nameplate 13 A is only valid in a 30 °C environment.
Panel integration and mounting
The RCBO occupies 3 modular width units (54 mm) on a DIN rail, with a depth of 77 mm and an installation depth of 70 mm. It can be mounted in any position. Supply can enter from either the top or bottom. The IP20 rating applies when installed in a distribution board with conductors connected — it is not rated for washdown or outdoor exposure without an enclosure.
Compliance and approvals
The 5SU1324-6KX13 is halogen-free and silicon-free. It is rated for overvoltage category III and pollution degree 2, which covers fixed-installation distribution boards. The energy limitation class is 3.
