What this RCBO is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 5SU1324-7RC63 is a 2-pole RCBO (residual current circuit breaker with overcurrent protection) rated 63 A with a C tripping characteristic and Type A residual current detection at 30 mA. It combines overcurrent and earth-fault protection in a single 4-module-wide (72 mm) package, saving a DIN-rail position compared to separate MCB and RCD units. The C-curve means it handles inrush from motor and lighting loads up to 10× rated current before the magnetic trip fires — sized for pump, compressor, or fluorescent bank starts. Type A residual detection catches pulsating DC fault currents that a plain AC type would miss, which matters for variable-speed drives, LED drivers, and switched-mode power supplies common in commercial and light-industrial panels.
Breaking capacity and fault clearing
Rated breaking capacity is 10 kA per EN 60898 and 15 kA per IEC 60947-2. The EN 60898 figure governs residential and commercial final circuits where the prospective fault current stays under 10 kA; the higher IEC 60947-2 rating applies when the unit is specified per the industrial standard, giving a safety margin for sub-distribution boards with higher available fault current. Overvoltage category III and pollution degree 2 suit fixed-installation distribution boards, not portable equipment.
Physical fit and panel integration
Body dimensions are 72 mm wide (4 modular width units), 90 mm tall, and 70 mm deep. Mounts in any position on standard DIN rail. Supply can enter from top or bottom — no mandatory orientation. Installation depth of 70 mm means it clears most 80 mm-deep enclosures. IP20 rating applies only when the distribution board is installed and conductors are connected — the front face is finger-safe, but the busbar area needs enclosure protection during handling.
