The 30 mA Type A residual sensitivity catches both smooth AC ground faults and pulsed DC faults from rectified loads (VFDs, switched-mode supplies), which a plain AC type would miss. Two-pole switching isolates both line and neutral on a single-phase or split-phase circuit.
