What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SU1344-8RC32 is a 4-pole RCBO (Residual Current Circuit Breaker with Overcurrent Protection) rated at 32 A, occupying 7 modular DIN-rail spaces. It combines a D-characteristic overcurrent trip curve with a Type A 30 mA residual current device in a single unit, saving a module or two versus separate MCB and RCD.
What the ratings mean for your panel
The D characteristic means the magnetic trip fires at 10 to 20 times rated current — designed for loads with high inrush, like small transformers, solenoid banks, or motor starters. The 30 mA Type A RCD detects sinusoidal AC and pulsating DC fault currents, which covers most electronic loads (VFDs, switch-mode supplies, LED drivers) that a plain AC-sensitive RCD might miss. At 7 modules wide on a DIN rail, it fits standard distribution boards but chews up more rail than a 2-module single-pole RCBO — plan the enclosure fill accordingly.
