Product details

The Siemens 5SU1353-1GV16 is a SENTRON 5SU1-series RCBO (residual current circuit breaker with overcurrent protection) combining a 16 A rated current C-curve MCB and a 30 mA residual current device in a single 2-module (36 mm wide) package. It protects a 1P+N circuit — one switched phase plus a switched neutral — against overload, short-circuit (4.5 kA per EN 60898), and earth leakage. The AC fault-current type means it detects sinusoidal AC residual currents; it's the standard choice for general-purpose socket-outlet and lighting circuits where no pulsed DC or smooth DC fault currents are expected.

What the ratings mean for fit

The C-curve trips between 5× and 10× In (80–160 A magnetic release), so it's sized for circuits with moderate inrush — think small motor starters, contactor coils, or groups of LED drivers. The 4.5 kA breaking capacity at 230/400 V is the standard domestic and light-commercial SCCR; if your fault-current study shows more than 4.5 kA prospective short-circuit current at the installation point, you need an upstream current-limiting device or a higher-rated breaker. The 16 A rating is thermally compensated across the full ambient range: it holds 16 A at 30 °C, derates to 15.2 A at 40 °C, and steps down to 12.32 A at 70 °C — so if the RCBO lives in a hot panel (say, next to a transformer or drive), you must use the 70 °C figure for your continuous-load calculation, not the 30 °C headline.

Panel integration and wiring

Snap-on mounting to 35 mm DIN rail, 36 mm wide (2 width units), any mounting position. The terminals accept 0.75–35 mm² solid or stranded copper. Installation depth is 70 mm; overall depth is 77 mm. Supply can come from either top or bottom.

Frequently asked questions

What is the closest functional alternative to 5SU1353-1GV16?

The 5SL6563-7BB is a 1P+N RCBO in the same SENTRON family with similar ratings, but it uses a different residual-current sensing module. The 5SU1 series (this part) is the instantaneous-design variant; the 5SL series is a selective (S-type) design with a deliberate time delay to coordinate with downstream RCDs. If your circuit requires selectivity against earth faults, the 5SL is the correct choice; otherwise the 5SU1 drops into the same panel footprint without rewiring.
