It is designed for 50 Hz AC supply networks and carries a breaking capacity of 10 kA per EN 60898 and 15 kA per IEC 60947-2, giving it fault-clearing capability suitable for residential and light commercial distribution boards. Type AC detection responds to sinusoidal AC fault currents. For circuits with pulsating DC leakage, use Type A or Type F. 100 mA sensitivity suits circuits with expected equipment earth leakage. The C characteristic has a magnetic trip threshold of 5 to 10 times the rated current (200–400 A instantaneous trip for this 40 A unit), intended for circuits with moderate inrush — motor-starting, banks of fluorescent lighting, small transformers.
The 4-module width (72 mm) and 70 mm depth fit standard SENTRON distribution boards and enclosures. Supply can enter from either top or bottom. The IP20 rating applies with conductors connected inside an installed distribution board — not suitable for wet or dusty locations without an outer enclosure. Mounting position is unrestricted.
The EN 60898 value is the one used for coordination in residential and commercial final circuits per the standard's scope. The IEC 60947-2 rating applies when the device is deployed in an industrial context where the standard's more demanding performance criteria (including I²t let-through and operating sequence) are specified. For selectivity with an upstream SENTRON fuse or MCCB, the 15 kA figure provides additional headroom in the fault-current withstand calculation at the distribution board.
