SENTRON 5SU1653-1GV16 — RCBO, 16 A C-curve, 1P+N
The Siemens SENTRON 5SU1653-1GV16 is a residual-current circuit breaker with overcurrent protection (RCBO) in a 1P+N configuration — one protected pole plus a switched neutral. It carries a 16 A rating at 30 °C with a C-curve tripping characteristic (magnetic release between 5 and 10 times In), making it the right choice for circuits with moderate inrush, like small motor loads, lighting banks, or control transformers in a distribution board. Breaking capacity is 4.5 kA per EN 60898 for domestic-type installations and 15 kA per IEC 60947-2 for industrial panel duty — the higher figure gives you selectivity headroom downstream of a larger upstream MCCB. The part is rated at 230/240 V AC, 50 Hz only, so verify the line frequency before specifying.
Temperature derating and panel fit
The 16 A rating holds only at 30 °C ambient inside the enclosure. At 40 °C it derates to 15.2 A, at 50 °C to 14.4 A, and at 70 °C to 12.32 A — the full curve is on the nameplate. If the distribution board runs warm (common in a packed DIN-rail cabinet), size the upstream protection for the derated figure, not the 30 °C headline. The module occupies 2 modular width units (36 mm) and installs 70 mm deep into the panel. Mounting position is any orientation, and supply can enter from either top or bottom — no forced busbar routing. IP20 applies only once the distribution board is closed and conductors are connected; the front face is touch-safe, but the terminals are not during wiring.
Construction and compliance
The 5SU1653-1GV16 is halogen-free and silicon-free. Overvoltage category III and pollution degree 2 cover fixed-installation panel use.
