What the ratings mean for fit
The Siemens 5SU1654-6KK32 is a SENTRON RCBO — a combined residual-current circuit breaker and overcurrent protection device in one 2-module-width (36 mm) package. It protects a single-phase final subcircuit against earth leakage (Type A, sensitive to pulsating DC fault currents) and overcurrent/short-circuit (B-curve magnetic trip). The 32 A rating at 30 °C is the headline figure; derate to 30.4 A at 40 °C and 24.64 A at 70 °C, so the continuous load must be sized against the installed ambient, not the nameplate. Breaking capacity is 10 kA per EN 60898 and 15 kA per IEC 60947-2. The higher figure under 60947-2 means the device can interrupt fault currents up to 15 kA when applied as a distribution breaker in an industrial panel — useful downstream of a transformer capable of delivering that fault level. The 10 kA EN 60898 rating covers residential and commercial final-circuit installations where the prospective short-circuit current is lower.
Panel integration notes
Width of 36 mm (2 modular units) fits standard DIN-rail enclosures. Installation depth is 70 mm; overall depth 77 mm. Mounting position is unrestricted — install upright, sideways, or inverted without derating. Supply cord entry can be from the top or bottom, simplifying busbar routing in a distribution board. Rated for overvoltage category III (fixed-installation level) and pollution degree 2. IP20 protection applies when the distribution board is installed with conductors connected — the device itself is not rated for exposed or washdown environments. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction, relevant for installations in sensitive areas such as tunnels or clean manufacturing zones.
