It protects a single-phase final subcircuit against both overload/short-circuit and earth leakage. The 10 mA type A residual-current element catches sinusoidal AC faults plus pulsating DC faults up to 10 mA — the sensitivity level used for personal protection in wet or medical locations.
The higher IEC 60947-2 rating applies when the same RCBO is specified into an industrial panel under the product standard for circuit breakers — that 10 kA figure gives headroom for installation closer to a transformer or in a higher-fault location. The 4 000 V surge voltage resistance (impulse withstand) supports Overvoltage Category III installations, typical for fixed-wiring distribution boards downstream of the utility meter.
Supply can enter from either top or bottom — no orientation restriction. The IP20 rating applies once the distribution board is installed and conductors are connected; the enclosure itself provides the required touch protection.
