The Type A residual-current element detects pulsating DC fault currents — the kind rectifier-fed loads like washing machines, LED drivers, or VFDs can generate — as well as sinusoidal AC. With a 30 mA trip threshold it meets the person-protection requirement for socket-outlet circuits in most residential and commercial codes.
