What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 5SU9356-1KN16 is a combined RCD and miniature circuit breaker (RCBO) — one device that provides both overcurrent protection and residual current (earth leakage) protection in a single 2-module-width package. It is rated 16 A at AC with a C tripping characteristic (magnetic release at 5–10× In, suited for inductive and motor-start loads), and a 30 mA Type AC residual current trip for protection against sinusoidal AC fault currents. Breaking capacity is 6 kA per EN 60898, which covers most domestic and light commercial distribution boards. The C-curve and 30 mA sensitivity make it a common choice for final circuits supplying socket outlets, lighting, or small appliances where both overcurrent and shock protection are required in one DIN-rail unit.
Physical fit and panel integration
Width is 36 mm (2 modular units), depth 77 mm, installation depth 70 mm. It snaps onto standard 35 mm DIN rail and accepts top or bottom feed. The IP20 rating applies once installed in a distribution board with conductors connected — handle and store with the board closed.
Thermal derating — what the ratings mean in a panel
The 16 A rating holds at 30 °C ambient. At 40 °C the continuous current must be derated to 15.04 A, at 45 °C to 14.56 A, at 50 °C to 13.92 A, and at 55 °C to 12.96 A. If the RCBO sits in a crowded enclosure or near other heat sources, use the derated figure — not the 30 °C label — for the BOM line.
Compliance and approvals
Designed to EN 60898 (breaking capacity 6 kA), pollution degree 2, overvoltage category III, surge voltage resistance 4 000 V. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction. Functional marking per EN 61346-2 and IEC 81346-2: letter F.
