RCCB for 50 Hz distribution boards
The Siemens 5SV3317-6KL is a 2-pole residual-current circuit breaker (RCCB) from the SENTRON family, rated 80 A at 40 °C with a 30 mA trip threshold and Type A waveform sensitivity. It is an instantaneous (short-time-delay) device, meaning it trips without intentional delay on a residual fault — suited for general-purpose shock protection in 50 Hz TN and TT systems.
SCCR and fault coordination
The device carries a short-circuit current rating (SCCR) of 10 kA per IEC 61008-1, with a conditional rated short-circuit current of 0.8 kA when backed by an upstream overcurrent device per EN 60898. The let-through energy I²t is rated at 110 000 A²·s, and the surge-current withstand is 1 kA (8/20 µs waveform). These figures govern coordination with the upstream MCB or fuse — the 0.8 kA conditional rating means the RCCB relies on the backup protection to clear a fault above that level without damage to the device.
Depth is 70 mm, which matches the standard SENTRON RCCB profile — no extra panel depth required beyond the usual 70 mm for the distribution board. The N terminal is on the left side of the 2-pole block. Silicon-free construction is specified, relevant for potting or conformal-coating processes in sensitive environments.
Derate linearly: 77.87 A at 45 °C, 74.77 A at 50 °C, 70.26 A at 55 °C, 64.32 A at 60 °C, 56.96 A at 65 °C, and 48.2 A at 70 °C. Overvoltage category III (distribution-board level).
