The Siemens SENTRON 5SV3614-6BA is a 2-pole residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) from the 5SV3 design family, rated 40 A at 230/400 V AC with a 300 mA Type A tripping residual current. Type A detection covers sinusoidal AC and pulsating DC fault currents — the common profile from rectified loads, variable-speed drives, and switched-mode power supplies found in commercial and light industrial panels. The 10 kA short-circuit current rating (SCCR) means it withstands and interrupts fault currents up to that level without upstream damage, sized for standard distribution board coordination.
Thermal derating and conductor sizing
The 40 A rating holds at 40 °C ambient. Above that, derate linearly: 38.1 A at 45 °C, 35.59 A at 50 °C, 32.29 A at 55 °C, 28.19 A at 60 °C, 23.3 A at 65 °C, and 17.62 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs hot — near a transformer or drive bank — factor the installed derate rather than the nameplate. Terminal capacity accepts 0.75 to 35 mm² solid or stranded, covering common panel feed-through and downstream sub-feed wiring.
Mounting and integration
Snap-on DIN rail (REG) mount, 36 mm wide (2 width units), 90 mm tall, 70 mm installation depth. Mounting position is unrestricted — any orientation works. Feed from top or bottom; the supply position is flexible. IP20 with the distribution board installed and conductors connected — standard for enclosed panel use. Finger and back-of-hand safe terminals reduce shock risk during maintenance.
