What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 5SV3742-6 is a 4-pole residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) rated for 25 A at AC and a tripping fault current of 500 mA, Type A. It's designed to detect sinusoidal AC residual currents plus pulsating DC residual currents up to 500 mA, which covers most modern electronic loads like variable-speed drives, switched-mode power supplies, and lighting ballasts. The 10 kA short-circuit current rating (SCCR) means it can safely interrupt fault currents up to 10 kA without welding its contacts or cascading failure upstream — important for coordination in a distribution board.
Where it fits
Mounts on a standard DIN rail (REG) in any position, occupying 4 modular width units (72 mm wide). The 70 mm depth fits standard distribution boards with a grid spacing of 60 mm. Supply can come from top or bottom, and the IP20 rating applies once the distribution board is installed with connected conductors — meaning it's protected against solid objects larger than 12 mm, but not against water ingress, so it belongs inside a panel, not in a wet location.
