What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 5SV6016-7MC10 is a compact AFDD-MCB combo unit — an arc-fault detection device and miniature circuit breaker in one 18 mm-wide housing. It's a 2-pole (1P+N) design with a C-curve tripping characteristic, rated for 230 V AC and a full-scale current of 33 A. The integrated metering suite — ammeter, voltmeter, wattmeter, frequency meter, and reactive power meter — gives you live power-quality data without adding a separate panel meter. The AFDD function detects series and parallel arc faults per IEC 62606, so this unit covers both overcurrent protection and arc-fault protection in a single DIN-rail module. The 6 kA breaking capacity at 230 V (acc. to IEC 60947-2) handles most commercial and light-industrial fault levels.
Ratings and what they mean for fit
The C-curve means the magnetic trip operates at 5–10× In — standard for general-purpose lighting and mixed resistive-inductive loads where moderate inrush is expected. The 33 A full-scale is the maximum continuous current the metering electronics are calibrated for; the MCB's thermal trip element is sized for the same 33 A nominal. If your load draws more than 33 A steady-state, step up to the next frame size. The 6 kA rated short-circuit capacity (IEC 60947-2) is adequate for most sub-distribution boards fed from a transformer with typical impedance. For high-fault locations (close to a large transformer or generator), verify the prospective short-circuit current at the installation point — if it exceeds 6 kA, you need a current-limiting upstream device or a higher-rated breaker. Environmental range is wide: -40 °C to +75 °C operating/storage, pollution degree 2, overvoltage category III. The unit is halogen-free and silicon-free, which matters for clean-room or sensitive electronic environments where outgassing can cause contact corrosion or optical haze.
Where it goes and how it mounts
Snaps onto standard 35 mm DIN rail, occupies 1 modular width unit (18 mm,). Depth is 68.5 mm, installation depth 70 mm — verify enclosure depth clearance, especially in shallow pull-boxes. Mounting position is any, so it can go sideways or upside-down in tight layouts without derating. Front face is IP40; rear side is IP20. With conductors and protective device connected, the overall assembly meets IP20. Suitable for enclosed distribution boards in dry indoor locations — not for washdown or outdoor exposure without a weatherproof enclosure.
