Arc-fault and residual-current protection in one 18 mm module
The Siemens SENTRON 5SV6316-6KP10 is an AFDD-RCBO combination unit — an arc-fault detection device (AFDD) and a residual-current circuit breaker (RCBO) integrated into a single compact housing.
The 10 A rated operational current sets the maximum continuous load the device can carry under normal conditions — sized for lighting circuits, socket outlets, or small appliance loads. The 2-pole construction switches both line and neutral, with the neutral pole switched internally — no separate neutral bar required downstream. The 18 mm width and 68.5 mm depth mean it fits the same footprint as a single-module RCBO — no extra panel space needed for the arc-fault function. The IP20 rating is typical for enclosed distribution boards; the device requires the connected protective device and conductors to maintain ingress protection.
Arc-fault detection parameters
The AFDD function is tested to detect series arcs (in series with the load) from 1 A up to 10 A, and parallel arcs (in parallel with the load) from 50 A up to 500 A. These thresholds cover the typical fault current range in a 10 A final circuit. The device is not short-time delayed, meaning it trips without intentional delay on fault detection — consistent with AFDD standards that require fast interruption to limit arc energy.
