The 30 mA Type A residual-current element catches sinusoidal AC faults and pulsating DC faults up to 6 mA smooth DC, covering most modern electronics and variable-speed drives downstream. The AFDD function detects series and parallel arcing faults (rated 2–10 A series, 50–500 A parallel) and disconnects before the arc can ignite surrounding material — a code requirement in many residential and light-commercial sleep-risk areas (bedrooms, hotel rooms, assisted living).
