What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SV9316-7CN16 is a 1P+N RCD-operated circuit breaker from the SENTRON 5SV9 series — an RCBO that combines overcurrent and residual-current protection in a single 18 mm wide module. Rated 16 A at 30 °C with a C tripping curve, it handles general-purpose lighting and socket-outlet circuits in residential and light commercial panels. The Type A fault-current detection means it catches pulsating DC residual currents from electronics, rectifiers, and variable-speed drives, not just sinusoidal AC faults. Breaking capacity is 6 kA per both EN 60898 and IEC 60947-2, which covers most domestic and small commercial service entrances.
Thermal derating and panel fit
The 16 A rating holds at 30 °C ambient. At 40 °C it derates to 15.2 A, at 45 °C to 14.72 A, at 50 °C to 14.24 A, and at 55 °C to 13.76 A. If the panel runs warm — say a crowded enclosure near a conveyor drive cabinet — size the branch circuit for the actual ambient, not the 30 °C headline number. The module occupies 1 width unit (18 mm) on a DIN rail, with an installation depth of 70 mm and overall depth of 77 mm. Mounting position is any, and supply can enter from top or bottom, which simplifies wiring in tight gland-plate layouts.
