What it is and what the ratings mean
The Siemens 5SY3016-7WM is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker — a 1P+N unit with a C-curve trip characteristic, rated 16 A at 230 V AC. The C-curve means it trips between 5 and 10 times rated current, so it's the standard choice for general-purpose loads like lighting circuits, socket outlets, and small motor feeds where moderate inrush is expected. The 4.5 kA breaking capacity (per EN 60898) tells you it can safely interrupt a fault current up to that level at 230 V — enough for most residential and light commercial distribution boards, but worth checking if your installation has a higher prospective fault current. The 1P+N configuration switches both the phase and the neutral, with the neutral pole switching but not protecting; that's common in single-phase final circuits where you want to isolate the neutral as well.
Panel fit and mounting
Mounts on standard DIN rail (35 mm), occupies a single 18 mm width unit. Depth is 76 mm, installation depth 70 mm — so it sits flush with the rail and leaves clearance behind the gland plate. Mounting position is any, which simplifies layout in crowded enclosures. The IP20 rating (with connected conductors) is normal for a distribution board MCB; no washdown or outdoor rating here. Touch protection is built in on the terminals. The housing is halogen-free and silicon-free, which matters if the panel is in a zone with strict outgassing requirements (e.g., clean rooms or certain industrial environments).
