What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SY4116-6CC11 is a 1-pole SENTRON miniature circuit breaker (MCB) with a B tripping characteristic, rated at 16 A and 400 V AC, with a 10 kA breaking capacity per EN 60898. The B-curve trips between 3 and 5 times rated current — suited for resistive and general-purpose loads where inrush is modest, like lighting or control circuits. The 10 kA SCCR at 400 V means it safely interrupts faults up to that level without upstream cascading, a key figure for panel coordination studies.
Where it fits in the panel
At 18 mm wide (1 width unit) and 76 mm deep, it snaps onto a standard DIN rail via the quick-assembly system. The 70 mm installation depth leaves clearance for wiring behind the rail. Terminals accept solid or stranded conductors from 0.75 to 35 mm², torqued to 2.5–3.5 N·m. Combined top and bottom terminals simplify daisy-chaining busbars. IP20 with connected conductors — fine inside a closed panel, not for wet environments.
Key ratings and what they mean for fit
Rated 16 A at 400 V AC, B-curve — the breaker holds 16 A continuously and trips magnetically between 48 and 80 A. The 10 kA breaking capacity at 400 V AC (per EN 60898) certifies it for fault currents up to that level; overvoltage category III means it's rated for fixed installations downstream of the main distribution board. Energy limiting class 3 keeps let-through energy low, reducing stress on downstream components. Maximum DC voltage is 72 V — usable for DC auxiliary circuits within that limit, but not for 125 V DC rails. No neutral pole switching (1P only).
Environmental and compliance notes
Halogen-free and silicon-free construction — relevant for panels in clean rooms or areas sensitive to outgassing. Sealable terminals allow tamper-proofing after commissioning. Ambient temperature range -40 to +70 °C, storage -40 to +75 °C. Designed for railway applications and mechanical engineering / industry. Suitable for any mounting position.
