What this MCB is and where it fits
The Siemens 5SY4116-7CC is a 1-pole miniature circuit breaker from the SENTRON family, designed for branch-circuit protection in industrial control panels and distribution boards. Its C-curve tripping characteristic (rated per EN 60898) makes it the standard choice for moderate inrush loads — motor starters, contactor coils, and small transformers — where the starting surge falls between 5 and 10 times the rated current before the thermal element clears a sustained overload. Rated breaking capacity is 10 kA at 400 VAC per EN 60898, and 5 kA at 440 VAC per UL 1077 / CSA C22.2 No.235. That 10 kA figure is the prospective short-circuit current the breaker can safely interrupt under standard test conditions — enough for most secondary-distribution panels fed by a transformer of 500 kVA or less. For North American installations, the 5 kA UL/CSA rating governs; verify the available fault current at the point of installation. The 1-module-wide (18 mm) body snaps onto a standard DIN rail and accepts supplementary devices (auxiliary switches, shunt trips, undervoltage releases) via the combined top and bottom terminals. Mounting position is unrestricted, and the IP20 finger-safe enclosure (with conductors connected) suits enclosed panel use — not outdoor or washdown locations.
Integration notes
Depth of 76 mm and height of 90 mm — the 70 mm installation depth is the dimension behind the panel face, so verify the enclosure depth clears the breaker body plus any wiring space. The quick-assembly fastening method means the breaker clips onto the DIN rail without tools; the combined terminals accept both busbar and conductor connections on the same screw clamp. Operating temperature range from -40 °C to +75 °C covers most industrial environments, but note the humidity derating: max 95% RH at 55 °C, dropping to 35% at 75 °C. If the panel sees sustained high-humidity and high-temperature conditions, factor that into the breaker's thermal performance. Pollution degree 3 and overvoltage category III mean the breaker is rated for the industrial environment — conductive pollution or condensation is expected, and it can handle transient overvoltages from the supply side. Vibration resistance per IEC 60068-2-6: ±1 mm at 5–25 Hz, 50 m/s² at 25–150 Hz — sufficient for most machine-mounted panels.
