What the ratings mean for the panel
The 5SY4210-8CC is a Siemens SENTRON miniature circuit breaker (MCB) with a D tripping characteristic, rated 10 A at AC and 10 kA breaking capacity per EN 60898. The D curve means it tolerates high inrush currents — typically 10 to 20 times the rated current — making it the right choice for motor circuits, transformers, or welding equipment where the start-up surge would nuisance-trip a B or C curve breaker. The 10 kA breaking capacity at 400 V ensures it safely interrupts a fault up to that level without cascading upstream, which is critical for selectivity in a distribution panel. Rated voltage is 440 V AC, 50/60 Hz, and the breaker is 2-pole (switches both line conductors). The 2-module-width housing (36 mm per module) snaps onto a DIN rail and fits standard SENTRON distribution boards. Operating temperature range is -40 °C to 75 °C, with a derating curve: at 40 °C the continuous current drops to 9.19 A, at 50 °C to 8.29 A, and at 55 °C to 7.81 A. In a warm enclosure, size the load accordingly or allow ventilation.
Integration and compliance
Mounts in any position on a DIN rail via the quick-assembly system. Depth is 76 mm, which leaves clearance behind a standard 80 mm deep enclosure. The IP20 rating (with connected conductors) means it is suitable for installation inside a closed panel, not for wet or dusty environments. Pollution degree 3 and overvoltage category III confirm it is rated for fixed industrial installations where transient overvoltages are expected. Sealable, halogen-free, and silicon-free construction. Touch protection is built in. Compliance documentation (RoHS, REACH, UL, IEC) is provided by Siemens with the product; the MCB is designed to EN 60898 and carries the relevant markings.
