Breaking capacity and tripping curve — the fit decision
The 5SY4215-8 carries a dual-rated breaking capacity: 10 kA per EN 60898-1 and 35 kA per IEC 60947-2. The 35 kA figure applies under the industrial standard — that is the number that matters when the MCB sits in a panel with high available fault current, typical of industrial switchgear rather than residential distribution. The D-curve (tripping characteristic class D) means the magnetic trip threshold is set at 10× rated current.
2-pole construction and voltage ratings
Two poles switched together, no neutral conductor switching — the neutral is through-wired or bussed separately. Rated 400 V AC (single- or multi-phase) and 60 V DC (72 V DC max operating voltage). Mounting position any, fastening via quick-assembly system — snaps onto the rail without tools.
Standards and environmental rating
Compliant with IEC / EN 60898-1 and IEC / EN 60947-2 / UL1077. IP20 with connected conductors; sealable for lockout/tagout. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction — important for environments sensitive to outgassing, such as clean rooms or sealed enclosures near sensitive electronics.
Part of the Siemens SENTRON family, designed for mechanical engineering and industrial applications.
