The 5SY4240-7 carries 10 kA per EN 60898-1, 15 kA per IEC 60947-2 at 400 V AC, and 15 kA per IEC 60947-2 at 60 V DC. For UL 1077 / CSA C22.2 No.235 installations it is rated 5 kA. That 15 kA IEC figure gives headroom for high-fault locations near transformers or large drives — a standard 10 kA MCB would be marginal there. The dual-standard rating means it is accepted in IEC panels (EN 60898-1 for residential/commercial, IEC 60947-2 for industrial) and UL-recognized component circuits (UL 1077) without needing a separate UL 489 listed breaker. Voltage rating: 400 V AC (single- or multi-phase operation up to 440 V AC), 60 V DC nominal with a maximum operating voltage of 72 V DC. The 2-pole design does not switch the neutral (neutral conductor switching: no), so it is intended for double-pole overcurrent protection on line and switched neutral in single-phase circuits, or as a two-pole device on a 2-wire DC circuit. The supply frequency is 50/60 Hz.
Installation and environmental fit
Mounts in any position via the quick assembly system (snap-on DIN rail). The temperature range is -40 °C to 75 °C, with humidity derating: max 95% RH up to 55 °C, 55% RH up to 70 °C, 35% RH up to 75 °C. Sealable terminals (sealable: yes) allow the panel builder to lock the cover after commissioning — common for utility metering or tenant sub-metering where tamper evidence is required. Combined terminal top and bottom (combined terminal top: yes, combined terminal bottom: yes) means each pole accepts both the incoming and outgoing conductor under the same screw, simplifying daisy-chaining.
