The Siemens SENTRON 5SY4316-8CC is a 3-pole miniature circuit breaker rated 16 A with a D tripping characteristic, breaking 10 kA per EN 60898 at 440 V AC. This D-curve is designed for high inrush loads — motors, transformers, welding equipment — where the magnetic trip holds off until roughly 10–20× rated current, avoiding nuisance trips on startup. The 10 kA SCCR at 440 V means it safely interrupts fault currents up to that level without cascading upstream, which matters when coordinating with a downstream distribution board.
Thermal derating and environment
At 40 °C ambient the continuous rating drops to 15.04 A; at 55 °C it's 13.47 A. The operating range spans -40 °C to 75 °C, with humidity limits of 95% up to 55 °C, 55% to 70 °C, and 35% to 75 °C. Pollution degree 3 and overvoltage category III suit it for industrial control panels where conductive dust or condensation is present. The housing is halogen-free and silicon-free, which avoids corrosive off-gassing in sealed enclosures.
Mounting and integration
Snap-on mounting to DIN rail via the quick-assembly system, occupying 3 modular width units (54 mm). Installation depth is 70 mm; overall depth 76 mm. Any mounting position is permitted, and the supply cord can enter from any side. Combined terminals at top and bottom accept the same conductor range. The unit is sealable, which allows panel builders to lock the setting after commissioning. No neutral conductor switching — this is a straight 3-pole line breaker.
