What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SY4416-7CC11 is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker (MCB) designed for 4-pole (4P) AC branch-circuit protection. Its C-curve tripping characteristic means it handles moderate inrush currents typical of motor starters, transformers, and capacitor banks — it trips between 5 and 10 times rated current on a short circuit, so it won't nuisance-trip on a pump or conveyor start, but clears a hard fault fast enough to protect downstream wiring. Rated 16 A at 400 V AC, with a 10 kA breaking capacity per EN 60898. That 10 kA figure is the maximum fault current it can safely interrupt at 400 V without welding its contacts or venting arc plasma into the panel — critical for selectivity studies in a distribution board where upstream breakers must see the fault and stay closed. Energy limiting class 3 means it restricts let-through energy (I²t) to the lowest band per EN 60898, reducing thermal stress on downstream components during a fault. For a panel builder, that translates to smaller cable sizing and less arc-flash energy at the load side.
