What this 4-pole C-curve 40 A MCB is built for
The Siemens SENTRON 5SY4440-7KK11 is a 4-pole miniature circuit breaker with a C tripping characteristic rated at 40 A at 35 °C (38.4 A at 40 °C, 36.76 A at 50 °C — derate accordingly). It's designed for mechanical engineering and industrial panel applications, built to DIN EN 60898-1 and also rated under IEC 60947-2 with a 15 kA breaking capacity (10 kA under EN 60898-1). The C-curve (tripping characteristic class C) means it holds up to 5–10× rated current for short periods before tripping magnetically — typical for motor circuits, transformers, and lighting banks where inrush is moderate. At 40 A, that's 200–400 A magnetic trip threshold.
The quick assembly system (fastening method) lets it snap onto the rail without tools. Installation depth is 70 mm, and the mounting position can be any orientation. Sealable design (yes) means you can lock the toggle in position with a padlock — useful for lockout/tagout on a panel door.
Halogen-free and silicon-free construction for applications sensitive to outgassing (railway, marine, clean manufacturing). The product is also designated for railway applications per the design field. The breaking capacity of 15 kA per IEC 60947-2 gives headroom for high-fault panels; the 10 kA per EN 60898-1 is the residential/commercial rating path.
