The Siemens 5SY4616-8CC is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker (MCB) with a D tripping characteristic, rated 16 A at 40 °C, and a breaking capacity of 10 kA per EN 60898.
The D-curve (tripping characteristic class D) means the breaker tolerates high inrush currents — typically 10–20× rated current — before the magnetic trip fires. At 16 A rated current, it handles continuous loads up to that figure; derate to 15.04 A at 40 °C and 14.02 A at 50 °C, so if your panel runs hot, size up or account for the thermal drop. Breaking capacity of 10 kA at 400 V AC per EN 60898 means it can safely interrupt a fault current up to 10,000 A without welding contacts or rupturing the case. Under UL 1077 the rating drops to 5 kA — if your job spec calls for UL listing, that lower figure governs the available fault current the breaker can see.
