Siemens 5SY4680-7 — 4-pole C-curve MCB for industrial panels
The Siemens 5SY4680-7 is a 4-pole (3P+N) miniature circuit breaker from the SENTRON family, rated 400 V AC with a C-curve trip characteristic. It interrupts faults at 10 kA per IEC 60898-1 and 15 kA at DC per IEC 60947-2 — the dual standard means it is certified for both residential-style branch circuits and industrial power distribution. The 72 mm width (4 modular units) snaps onto a DIN rail; any mounting position is allowed, and the quick assembly system speeds panel build.
What the ratings mean for your panel
The C-curve (trips at 5–10× rated current) is the standard choice for motor and transformer branch circuits where inrush is moderate — it avoids nuisance tripping on start-up while still clearing fast on a hard fault. The 10 kA interrupting rating under IEC 60898-1 covers most industrial panelboards fed from a 400 V transformer of typical size; the 15 kA DC rating (IEC 60947-2) matters if this breaker protects a DC bus or battery-backed circuit. Pollution degree 3 and overvoltage category III mean it is rated for the conductive environment inside an industrial enclosure — no extra derating needed for normal panel conditions. The neutral pole is switched (3P+N), so it disconnects the neutral on a fault, which is required in some regional codes and for certain load types.
Integration into the enclosure
The breaker occupies 4 modular width units (72 mm) on a DIN rail, with a depth of 76 mm and an installation depth of 70 mm. The combined terminals at top and bottom accept both busbar and cable — no separate feed-through lugs needed. Sealable (padlockable) handle allows lockout/tagout on the panel door. IP20 with connected conductors is typical for enclosed distribution boards; no special sealing is required inside a standard IP54 or higher panel.
