DC-rated MCB for control and auxiliary circuits
The Siemens SENTRON 5SY5115-7CC is a 1-pole miniature circuit breaker rated for DC circuits at 220 V (max 250 V) with a C tripping characteristic and a 1.6 A current rating. Its 10 kA breaking capacity at 220 V DC per IEC 60947-2 means it can safely interrupt a fault current up to that level without welding or arcing over — critical for protecting DC control supplies, battery-backed circuits, and industrial auxiliary loads where the arc extinction is harder than on AC. This is a DC-specific device, not a dual-rated AC/DC breaker. The C characteristic (magnetic trip between 5 and 10 times rated current) suits moderate inrush loads like contactor coils, solenoid valves, and small DC power supplies where you want to ride through the start-up surge without nuisance tripping.
Panel fit and environmental limits
Snaps onto DIN rail via the quick assembly system, occupies a single 18 mm width unit. Depth of 76 mm and installation depth of 70 mm mean it sits flush with standard SENTRON accessories. Mounting position is any, so it works in horizontal busbar panels or vertical distribution boards without derating the frame. Rated IP20 with connected conductors — protected against finger contact but not water ingress; install inside a closed panel or enclosure. Ambient range from -40 °C to 75 °C, with humidity derating above 55 °C: max 95% RH at 55 °C, dropping to 35% RH at 75 °C. Pollution degree 3 covers conductive pollution or dry non-conductive pollution that becomes conductive through condensation — typical for industrial control panels not in a clean room.
Sourcing and lifecycle
Halogen-free and silicon-free construction meets material restrictions common in automotive, rail, and semiconductor fab environments. The sealable design allows panel builders to lock the toggle position after commissioning — useful for preventing unauthorized reset on safety-critical DC circuits.
