Siemens 5SY5163-7KK11 — 1-pole C-curve MCB at 63 A
The Siemens 5SY5163-7KK11 is a 1-pole SENTRON miniature circuit breaker with a C tripping characteristic, rated 63 A at AC and 220 V at DC. It delivers a 10 kA breaking capacity per EN 60898 and 10 kA at DC per EN 60898-2, making it suitable for general-purpose branch-circuit protection in distribution panels and control cabinets.
What the ratings mean for fit
The C-curve (tripping between 5 and 10 times rated current) is the standard choice for moderate inrush loads — motor starters, contactor coils, small transformers — where a B-curve would nuisance-trip on startup but a D-curve would delay too long for fault clearing. At 63 A, this MCB handles a 3-phase 22 kW motor or a single-phase 14 kW resistive load at 230 V, but the real-world current must be derated above 35 °C: 59.16 A at 40 °C, 55.06 A at 50 °C, and 50.65 A at 60 °C. In a warm panel (40 °C ambient), the continuous load should not exceed 59 A. Pollution degree 3 and overvoltage category III mean the breaker is rated for fixed installations inside an enclosure where conductive pollution may occur — typical for industrial control panels, not clean-room or sealed environments. The IP20 rating (with connected conductors) confirms it must be housed behind a panel door or cover.
Panel integration and mounting
Snaps onto DIN rail via the quick assembly system, occupying 1 modular width unit (18 mm). Installation depth is 70 mm; overall depth is 76 mm. Any mounting position is permitted. The combined terminal top and bottom accept conductors without special tools, and the touch-protection feature (fingertip-safe terminals) meets the requirements for live-work safety during commissioning.
