DC ratings and the railway design
The 5SY5216-6CC11 is built for DC circuits — the type of voltage is DC, and polarity must be considered when wiring the power supply. The combined terminals at top and bottom accept solid or stranded conductors from 0.75 to 35 mm², with a tightening torque of 2.5 to 3.5 N·m (22 to 31 lbf·in). This range covers everything from control wiring to main feeder cables in a railway auxiliary panel. The product is explicitly designed for railway applications, which means it meets the vibration, temperature cycling, and humidity demands of EN 50155-style environments. The humidity derating curve is specified: max 95% RH up to 55 °C, derating to 55% at 70 °C and 35% at 75 °C. For a cold-chain or refrigeration controls engineer, the -40 °C low end means this breaker runs cold and stays cold in unheated freezer antechambers or outdoor trackside cabinets. Touch protection is integrated, and the sealable design allows tamper-proofing by the panel builder or site electrical engineer.
For the MRO storeroom keeper or maintenance-spares purchaser, the 76 mm depth and 36 mm width match the standard SENTRON 5SY5 footprint. If your panel was originally specified with a 5SY5232-6 (32 A, same 2-pole B-curve, same dimensions), the 5SY5216-6CC11 drops in without rewiring — same terminal range, same DIN rail clip, same torque spec. The only difference is the current rating and the DC-only voltage type vs the 5SY5232-6's AC/DC capability.
