What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SY6013-7 is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker (MCB) in the compact 1+N-pole format — one protected pole plus a switched neutral, rated 13 A at 230 V AC with a C-curve trip characteristic. The C-curve means it trips between 5 and 10 times rated current, which is the standard choice for mixed resistive and moderate inductive loads like lighting circuits, small motors, and general-purpose outlets in residential and light commercial panels. Breaking capacity is 6 kA per EN 60898, which certifies it for fault currents up to that level in a 230 V AC single-phase system. That's adequate for most domestic and small commercial distribution boards where the prospective short-circuit current stays under 6 kA.
Panel fit and mounting
Snaps onto standard DIN rail (35 mm) and occupies one modular width unit (18 mm). Depth is 76 mm, installation depth 70 mm — check gland plate clearance if the panel is shallow. Mounting position is any, so it works upright, sideways, or inverted without derating the thermal trip. IP20 with connected conductors — fine inside a closed enclosure, not for wet or dusty environments. Pollution degree 2 and overvoltage category III are standard for fixed-installation distribution boards.
Thermal derating and service life
Rated 13 A at 30 °C ambient; at 40 °C it derates to 12.35 A, and at 45 °C to 12.09 A. If the panel runs hot — say next to a transformer or in a sealed enclosure — factor that derating into the load calculation. Mechanical service life is 10 000 switching cycles typical, which is fine for a distribution board that sees infrequent manual operation.
