What this 1.6 A D-curve MCB is for
The Siemens 5SY6115-8 is a 1-pole SENTRON miniature circuit breaker rated at 1.6 A with a D tripping characteristic, designed for 400 V AC circuits. Its 18 mm width (1 width unit per DIN 43880) fits standard distribution boards and sub-distribution panels, and the quick-assembly mounting system clips onto the DIN rail without tools.
This breaker carries two breaking-capacity ratings: 6 kA per EN 60898 (the household / commercial standard) and 30 kA per IEC 60947-2 (the industrial standard). The 30 kA figure at 400 V AC is the one that matters for panel coordination in an industrial setting — it tells you the breaker can safely interrupt a fault current up to 30 kA without welding contacts or rupturing the case, which gives the upstream protective device room to discriminate. For DC circuits, the maximum rated voltage is 72 V with a 15 kA breaking capacity per IEC 60947-2. Under UL 1077 and CSA C22.2 No. 235, the interrupting rating is 5 kA at 480Y/277 V AC.
Installation and environmental limits
The ambient temperature range is -25 to +55 °C during operation, with storage from -40 to +75 °C. The terminals accept solid or stranded conductors from 0.75 mm² up to 35 mm², and both top and bottom terminals are combined (line and load can land on either side).
