Integrator note
The Siemens SENTRON 5SY6140-6CC is a 1-pole miniature circuit breaker with a B-curve tripping characteristic, rated 40 A at 400 V AC. It breaks 6 kA per EN 60898 and 5 kA per UL 1077, so it handles standard branch-circuit fault levels in industrial panels without cascading upstream. The 18 mm width (1 width unit) fits standard DIN-rail enclosures; depth is 76 mm, with 70 mm installation depth behind the panel. Terminal range accepts 0.75 to 35 mm² solid or stranded — sized for the 40 A feed without a ferrule bottleneck.
B-curve selectivity and coordination
B-curve trips magnetically at 3 to 5 times rated current — 120 to 200 A instantaneous — so it clears short-circuit faults fast while riding through moderate inrush from resistive loads. Energy limiting class 3 means it restricts let-through energy enough to protect downstream wiring and loads within its 6 kA rating.
Mounts via quick-assembly system (DIN rail) in any position. Ambient temperature range is -25 to +55 °C operating, with storage from -40 to +75 °C. Sealable terminals allow lockout/tagout compliance. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction reduces outgassing risk in sensitive environments.
